Transport Canada Electronic Logging Devices

We are the only recognized accreditation body that can accredit certification bodies for the Transport Canada Electronic Logging Devices Sub-program, which is based on the Commercial Vehicle Drivers Hours of Service Regulations, the Canadian Technical Standard for Electronic Logging Devices Code. As a pre-requisite, certification bodies must also be accredited to and ISO/IEC 17065, the international standard for providing product, process and services certification.

Canadian regulators at federal and provincial levels have embraced the value of third-party certification as part of their oversight to ensure the safety and performance of various products, including those in the ELD sector. SCC-accredited certification bodies must establish ongoing documented working relationships with applicable Canadian regulatory authorities in their field.

Manufacturers of electronic logging device (ELD) hardware or software, along with ELD resellers, are required to obtain certification from a third-party certification body accredited by SCC to operate in Canada. Compliance with the regulation is essential for companies engaged in the production or distribution of ELD solutions, guaranteeing adherence to governmental standards and regulations aimed at enhancing transportation safety and efficiency.

We are signatories to the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MLA) for ISO/IEC 17065. This means that certification by SCC-accredited certification bodies in this program is widely accepted internationally.
