Info Source describes the programs and activities, and the information holdings related to programs and activities, of government institutions subject to the Access to Information Act to facilitate the right of access. It also provides individuals, including current and former employees of the Government of Canada, with relevant information to access personal information about themselves held by government institutions subject to the Privacy Act and to exercise their rights under the Privacy Act.
An index of institutions that are subject to the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act is available centrally.
The Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act assign overall responsibility to the President of Treasury Board (as the designated Minister) for the government-wide administration of the legislation.

General information
Background
The Standards Council of Canada facilitates the development and use of national and international standards and accreditation services to enhance Canada's competitiveness and social well-being. SCC's governing legislation is the Standards Council of Canada Act.
We are a federal Crown corporation established in 1970 by an Act of Parliament. The purpose was to promote efficient and effective voluntary standardization in Canada. Our governing Council and Chairperson are appointed by the federal government. They report to Parliament through the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada.
Responsibilities
SCC is a federal Crown corporation that takes its mandate from its governing legislation. We coordinate the work of people involved in the development and application of standards. We accredit standards development organizations and conformity assessment bodies such as certification bodies and testing laboratories. More information on SCC’s governance can be found here.

Standards and international relations
The Standards and International Relations Branch facilitates Canada’s participation in the standards development activities of the:
- International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
- International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)
The Branch also coordinates Canada’s interest in regional standards organizations. They oversee Canadian standards development activities under SCC-accredited standards development organizations. The Branch manages the sale of ISO and IEC standards and National Standards of Canada.

Purpose: To select the winners of each of the Awards based upon pre-established criteria and to communicate with these individuals throughout the Awards process. After an awards ceremony, the award recipient's name, photograph and description of their work is posted on SCC's website. A press release announcing the award recipient is posted on our website.
Consistent use: There are no other uses associated with this data.

Standards sales
This bank describes the personal information used in the administration of the Standards Web Store. The personal information collected includes your name, billing and shipping address, telephone number, email address and language. It also collects your password — which is stored in plain text once you generate it.
Payment processing is conducted online. It’s done through a partnership with IHS Canada. Your credit card information is digitally encrypted and handled by a registered merchant. SCC records the transaction but does not capture any of the credit card details. Credit card details are captured in real-time. Although IP addresses are stored on the Apache server logs, these are not used by SCC in any way.
