Information Technology Security Evaluation and Testing

We offer this program specialty area under our internationally-recognized Testing and Calibration Laboratories Accreditation Program, which is based on SCC Requirements and Guidance for the Accreditation of Information Technology Security Evaluation and Testing Facilities and ISO/IEC 17025, the international standard for testing and calibration laboratories. The management system requirements in this standard meet the principles of, and are aligned with ISO 9001, the most widely used quality management system standard.

The program formally recognizes the competence of laboratories providing a range of testing services related to information technology. These services encompass conducting tests in the areas of common criteria product and system evaluations, product reviews, secure electronic commerce application evaluations, biometric device testing, vulnerability and tiger team testing, and specialized commercial security device testing.

This program specialty area is structured into specific Information Technology Security (ITS) Approval Domains, each recognized by an ITS Competent Authority, such as the Government of Canada’s Communications Security Establishment.

SCC accreditation serves as a cornerstone for testing laboratories, instilling confidence in their service delivery and fostering customer trust. By securing independent, third-party, and credible test results, laboratories strengthen their industry reputation. Accreditation is widely recognized as a reliable indicator of technical competence, prompting industries to routinely seek accreditation for their laboratory service providers.

We are signatories to the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) for this program programs. This means that testing by SCC-accredited laboratories is widely accepted internationally. This includes the requirements under Ontario’s Forensic Laboratories Act that requires accreditation by an ILAC-recognized body.
