Accreditation Scheme

Sub-programs

Forensic

We offer this program specialty area under our internationally-recognized Testing and Calibration Laboratories Accreditation Program, which is based on the SCC Requirements and Guidance for the Accreditation for Forensic Testing Laboratories and ISO/IEC 17025, the international standard for testing and calibration laboratories. The management system requirements in this standard meet the principles of, and are aligned with ISO 9001, the most widely used quality management system standard.

Forensic science encompasses a broad range of activities, including crime scene examination, evidence recovery, laboratory analysis and interpretation of findings for intelligence or court use. Our accreditation formalizes the competence of forensic testing laboratories in disciplines including toxicology, forensic biology/DNA, forensic chemistry/trace evidence, forensic drug chemistry, forensic equine drug testing, forensic toxicology, questioned documents examination and DNA databasing.

Our accreditation ensures forensic laboratories provide reliable, third-party verified results, enhancing their credibility and industry reputation. Accreditation is widely recognized as a reliable indicator of technical competence, prompting industries to routinely seek accreditation for their forensic testing laboratory service providers. Accredited laboratories providing analytical results for Canadian Courts of Law in criminal, civil proceedings or regulatory appeal panels demonstrate adherence to recognized standards in forensic sciences.

We are signatories to the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) for this program programs. This means that testing by SCC-accredited laboratories is widely accepted internationally. This includes the requirements under Ontario’s Forensic Laboratories Act that requires accreditation by an ILAC-recognized body.
