Pre-launch announcement: ISO/IEC 42001 accreditation program for artificial intelligence management systems

We are excited to announce the pre-launch of our accreditation scheme for ISO/IEC 42001:2023 – Information Technology – Artificial Intelligence – Management Systems (AIMS). This scheme will provide organizations a pathway to demonstrate that their artificial intelligence (AI) management systems meet the rigorous requirements of ISO/IEC 42001, fostering trust and accountability in AI technologies.

Recently published, ISO/IEC 42001 is a groundbreaking international standard, setting the global benchmark for responsible AI development and governance. It offers a structured framework for organizations to implement, maintain, and improve their AI management systems, ensuring alignment with ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements. As industries increasingly rely on AI, this standard offers assurance that AI systems are developed and used responsibly, ethically, and securely.

What is ISO/IEC 42001 accreditation?

ISO/IEC 42001 accreditation verifies that organizations have established robust internal management systems to support the ethical development, provision or use of AI technologies. Accredited organizations will demonstrate adherence to globally recognized best practices for quality, consistency and effectiveness in managing AI systems. This includes risk management, data governance, AI security and impact assessments—all essential for managing the risks and opportunities posed by AI.

Our accreditation scheme is designed for third-party conformity assessment bodies seeking to certify organizations that implement ISO/IEC 42001. By being accredited through us, conformity assessment bodies will ensure that their certification programs meet the highest standards of excellence and trust.

Who benefits from ISO/IEC 42001 accreditation?

ISO/IEC 42001 is applicable across industries that develop, provide or use AI systems, such as healthcare, defense, transportation, finance and energy. Organizations accredited under ISO/IEC 42001 will not only enhance their reputations but also align with growing global demands for responsible and transparent AI governance. With governments worldwide, including Canada, the U.S. and the European Union prioritizing AI regulation, ISO/IEC 42001 ensures that organizations are positioned to comply with future regulatory requirements.
