Naval distillate fuel
1.1 Types This standard applies to two types of middle distillate fuel, Type 11 and Type 15, normally used in naval operations whose product parameters are influenced by international military standardization agreement NATO STANAG 1385, Guide Specification for Naval Distillate Fuels (F-75 and F-76). Type 11 and Type 15 correspond to NATO codes F-76 and F-75 respectively, and are suitable for marine (naval) applications such as gas turbine power plants, high and medium speed internal combustion engines of the compression-ignition type, and boilers. The two types are potentially suitable for non-military use. Fuel produced to this standard is not intended for use in aircraft turbine engines. Type 11 is intended for equipment operating at temperatures of -1 °C and above. Type 11 is the primary fuel for naval requirements. Type 11 may contain synthetic hydrocarbon components (see 6.23). Type 151 is intended for use in equipment operating at temperatures of -12 °C and above. Type 15 cannot contain synthetic hydrocarbon components. Other standards of interest for marine applications include CAN/CGSB-3.517, CAN/CGSB-3.520 and ISO 8217. See Annex B for regulations that apply to diesel fuels. 1.2 Testing and evaluation The testing and evaluation of a product against this standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this standard has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use. 1.3 Units of measure Quantities and dimensions in this standard are provided in metric units from the International System of Units (SI units).
