CAN/ULC-S743.1:2020
1.1 This document specifies the physical property requirements and test methods used to verify
compliance of those material properties for low pressure spray applied rigid two-component polyurethane
foam for use as thermal insulation. This document applies to materials for building applications whether
applied on a building site or in a prefabrication (manufacturing) process.
1.2 The spray polyurethane foam system supplier does not produce the material for which this document
specifies physical properties. The spray polyurethane foam system supplier produces a liquid resin
component and supplies the corresponding polymeric isocyanate. When mixed together during
installation, on a fixed ratio basis, these two components produce the material.
1.3 The components are dispensed at pressures of no more than 2,075 kPa (300 psi).
1.4 The material shall not be used when the continuous service temperature of the substrate is outside
the range of -60 to +80°C.
1.5 The test methods used to determine the material properties provide a means of comparing different
materials. They are intended for use in specifications, product evaluations and quality control.
1.6 CAN/ULC-S743.2 includes mandatory requirements for the installation of the material as well as the
requirements of contractors and the qualification of installers. The requirements in CAN/ULC-S743.2 form
an integral part of the manufacturing process for the finished product. The product, when produced on site
in accordance with CAN/ULC-S743.2, ensures that the material meets the requirements of this document.
1.7 This document does not purport to address all the health and safety aspects associated with its use.
Anyone using this document has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish
appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any existing applicable regulatory requirements
prior to its use.
