SCOPE This standard applies to all types of materials (for example, plastics, other polymers, metal, cement) and products (for example, pipes, gaskets, valves, coating materials, lubricants) in contact with drinking water in a temporary or permanent cold drinking water supply system. NOTES — 1 Fire hydrants fall within the scope of this standard since they are major elements of a temporary drinking water supply system. The Standardized Specification BNQ 1809-300 (see Annex B) specifies applicable requirements for temporary drinking water supply systems. 2 Even though the requirements of this standard apply exclusively to water supply systems, these requirements should also apply to products and materials installed upstream of a water supply system, such as pipes, accessories, equipment for treatment and tanks of a drinking water production unit. This document was developed to serve as a reference document for the conformity assessment of specific products. NOTE — Conformity assessment is defined as the systematic examination of the extent to which a product fulfils specified requirements.
