SCOPE 1.1 This standard applies to life jackets intended to be worn on the body to provide flotation in situations where a drowning hazard exists. 1.2 This standard does not apply to individuals weighing less than 9 kg. 1.3 This standard specifies the requirements for safety, construction, reliability, performance, sizing, marking, components and test methods. 1.4 The testing and evaluation of a product against this standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that may be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use.
