Exterior and Interior Marine Alkyd Enamel
1. SCOPE 1.1 This standard applies to enamel for use as a finish coat on the exterior and interior of ships and boats, and on the exterior of deck machinery and equipment exposed to marine atmospheres and intermittently immersed in seawater. 1.2 The enamel may be applied over the following substrates: a. aluminum primed with a primer conforming to CAN/CGSB-1.132; b. suitably primed wood; c. steel primed with a primer conforming to CAN/CGSB-1.212 or CAN/CGSB-1.213; d. steel that has a coating conforming to CAN/CGSB-1.183 or CAN/CGSB-1.184, providing a suitable tie-coat (between the coating and the enamel) is used. 1.3 The testing and evaluation of a product against this standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous.
