Performance Testing of Solid-Fuel-Burning Heating Appliances
1. Scope 1.1 This Standard specifies (a) requirements for the performance testing of solidappliances having an air-fuel ratio averaging less than 35:1 as determined by Clause 16; and (b) maximum emission rates. 1.2 This Standard specifies a method for determining (a) heat outputs; (b) appliance efficiencies; (c) emission levels and composition; and (d) flue gas flow rates. 1.3 This Standard applies to (a) manually and automatically fuelled stoves and fireplace inserts; (b) factory-built fireplaces with a minimum burn rate less than 5 k g/h; and (c) furnaces and boilers with outputs up to 2 MW (6.83 million Btu/h) designed to have the useful heat produced by the appliance conveyed to areas remote from the appliance by ducting or plumbing. For the purpose of this Standard, solid-fuel-burning appliances include manually and automatically fuelled systems (including add-ons and combinations). 1.4 For the purpose of this Standard, the term solid fuel includes b iomass fuels such as (a) cordwood; (b) wood chips; (c) sawdust; (d) peat logs; (e) wood and paper pellets; and (f) kernel corn. The term solid fuel does not include coal. 1.5 This Standard does not apply to (a) site-built masonry fireplaces; (b) site-built masonry heaters;, (c) decorative fireplaces; or (d) fireplaces with a minimum burn rate above 5.0 kg/h. 1.6 This Standard is written in SI (metric) units, with equivalent yard/pound units in parentheses. If a value for measurement as given in this Standard is followed by an equivalent value in other units, the first stated is to be regarded as the requirement.
