1. SCOPE 1.1 This standard applies to two types of diesel fuel, Type A and Type B, that are suitable for use in high-speed diesel engines. These engines generally operate at speeds in excess of 1200 r/min. 1.2 Both types of fuel may be used in off-road¹ (also called off-highway) diesel-powered equipment in services involving relatively high loads, for example, industrial equipment and heavy mobile equipment used in construction. 1.2.1 Type A is intended for use when ambient temperatures require better low-temperature properties than Type B has. 1.2.2 Type B is intended for use when ambient temperatures and fuel storage conditions allow use of such fuel. 1.3 The testing and evaluation of a product against this standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this standard has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use. ¹Fuel suitable for on-highway (on-road) diesel-powered equipment is covered by CAN/CGSB-3.517, Automotive Low-Sulphur Diesel Fuel (Appendix B).
