Security Guards and Security Guard Supervisors
1. SCOPE 1.1 This standard sets out criteria to be used when selecting uniformed contract and in-house security guards and supervisors for the protection of people, property and information. It covers requirements for contract and in-house security guards and supervisors and provides a "Security Guard Basic (Pre-Assignment) Training Program" (Appendix A), a "Security Guard Supervisor (Pre-Assignment) Training Program" (Appendix B) and "Performance Guidelines - Providers of Training for Security Guards and Supervisors" (Appendix C). 1.2 Health - Notwithstanding the content of the health criteria in this standard, there will be a need for users to waive certain criteria where a particular duty requirement will permit. 1.3 Security Clearances - There are no requirements in this standard for security clearances to be undertaken or obtained. However, where the duties of security guards and supervisors may provide access to data or material of a sensitive or high value nature, users of this standard may wish to require specific security clearances. 1.4 Bonding - The bonding requirements are also not covered. Bonding is usually a prerequisite to licensing by appropriate jurisdictions but may not be universally required. 1.5 Civil Liability - The need for coverage for civil liability should be considered in connection with the utilization of security guards and supervisors. 1.6 Training Programs - The attention of users is drawn to the remarks that form a preamble to the Training Program. 1.7 First Aid and CPR Training - Training and qualification in First Aid and CPR is not a requirement of this standard but it is considered desirable and has therefore been included herein as an option that can be selected by users.
