1. Scope
1.1 This standard contains design, manufacturing and use requirements for
non-bulk UN specification packagings of no more than 400 kg or 450 l
for the transportation of dangerous goods (other than those classed as
gases, infectious or radioactive).
1.1.1 Part I of this standard applies to classes 1 to 9 excluding classes 2,
6.2 and 7. It specifies design and manufacturing requirements for
non-bulk UN specification packagings that are based on the Un
Recommendations on the Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
1.1.2 Part II of this standard applies to classes 3 to 9 excluding 6.2 and 7.
It sets out requirements for the selection and use of non-bulk Un
specification packagings for shipment by road, rail and by ship on a
domestic voyage. The provisions of Part II apply to both new and
reconditioned or remanufactured packagings. For selection and use of
packaging for explosives refer to CAN/CGSB-43.151 - Packing of
Explosives, Class 1, for Transportation.
1.4 The testing and evaluation of a product against this standard may
require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous.
