1. SCOPE
1.1 This specification applies to a mixture of sodium hydroxide and
sequestering agents that when diluted with water, will remove rust and
scale from iron and steel surfaces, with or without attendant paints,
grease or other surface coatings. It can also be used for cleaning
copper, brass magnesium and other metals, and to strip phosphate
coatings where separate solutions formulated for this purpose are not
available.
1.2 The diluted corrosion-removing compound is intended for immersion
cleaning only (by simple immersion of the articles). The dimensional
characteristics of the steel and iron articles being cleaned should not
be altered by the use of the corrosion-removing compound solution.
1.3 The testing and evaluation of a product against this specification may
require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous.
This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects
associated with its use. Anyone using this specification has the
responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish
appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any
existing applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use.
