Gas Clothes Dryers Volume I - Type 1 Clothes Dryers
1.1 SCOPE 1.1.1 This standard applies to newly produced Type 1 clothes dryers (see Part IV, Definitions), hereinafter referred to as dryers, constructed entirely of new, unused parts and materials: a. For use with natural gas, b. For use with manufactured gas, c. For use with mixed gas, d. For use with liquefied petroleum gases, e. For use with LP gas-air mixtures, and f. For mobile home installation (see 1.2.12). The construction of clothes dryers for use with the above-mentioned gases is covered under Part I. The performance of clothes dryers for use with the above-mentioned gases is covered under Part II. 1.1.2 Except as noted in Exhibit B, this standard does not cover the drying efficiency of Type 1 clothes dryers since it is regulated in the United States by the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1975 and the National Energy Conservation Policy Act of 1978 and amendments thereto and regulations issued in accordance with these acts.* Exhibit B, containing clauses unique to the CGA 7.1 Standard, includes a dryer efficiency test. 1.1.3 Exhibits A and B include coverage for electrical equipment, wiring and accessories built in or supplied for use with the dryer. 1.1.4 Exhibit A contains provisions that are unique to the United States. 1.1.5 Exhibit B contains provisions that are unique to Canada. 1.1.6 Special construction provisions applicable to a dryer designed for use with an optional listed conversion kit are outlined under Exhibit C, Optional Provisions for Listed Gas Appliances Conversion Kits. 1.1.7 If a value for measurement as given in this standard is followed by an equivalent value in other units, the first stated value is to be regarded as the specification. 1.1.8 All references to "psi" throughout this standard are to be considered gage pressures unless otherwise specified. 1.1.9 Exhibit D, List of Reference Standards, contains a list of Standards specifically referenced in this standard and sources from which they may be obtained. Exhibit D includes the U.S. and Canadian reference standards where applicable. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to determine which referenced standard applies, based on the requirements of the authority having jurisdiction at the location of the installation. 1.1.10 Special construction provisions applicable to a clothes dryer designed for use with an optional listed conversion kit are outlined under Exhibit C, Optional Provisions for Listed Gas Appliance Conversion Kits. Also see 1.23.12. * At the time of this printing, the above acts regulate the drying efficiency of Type 1 clothes dryers.
