Methods of Sampling and Testing Waxes and Polishes Flash Point
1. SCOPE 1.1 This method describes three procedures for determining the flash point of waxes, polishes and related materials. 1.2 The procedures outlined in par. 3.1 and 5.1 apply to liquids with a kinematic viscosity below 5.5 mm²/s (Note 1) at 40°C, or below 9.5 mm²/s at 25°C, and a flash point below 93°C. 1.3 The procedure outlined in par. 4.1 applies to liquids with the following properties: a kinematic viscosity of 5.5 mm²/s or more at 40°C; a kinematic viscosity of 9.5 mm²/s or more at 25°C; a flash point of 93°C or higher; a tendency to form a surface film under test conditions; or containing suspended solids. 1.4 The testing and evaluation of a product against this method may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this method has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any existing applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use. Note 1: Stokes (St) = 100 mm²/s
