Automatic Safety Shut-Off Gas Valves
1.1 Scope 1.1.1 These provisions cover the construction and performance of automatic safety shut-off valves for the automatic or manual turning on and the automatic shutting off of fuel gas. 1.1.2 This Standard sets forth the minimum capabilities which a valve must possess in order to be considered suitable for use with natural gas, manufactured gas and liquefied or vapour state petroleum gases. 1.1.3 These provisions apply to automatic safety shut-off valves, with holding pressure ratings in excess of 0.5 psig (3.4 kPa) and/or single unit application with maximum rated inputs in excess of 400,000 Btuh (117.23 kW) for use with Commercial or Industrial Appliances. 1.1.4 Electrically operated safety shut-off valves covered by these provisions are for use with gas-fired equipment intended to be employed in non-hazardous locations as defined in the CSA C22.1, CANADIAN ELECTRICAL CODE, Part 1, Safety Standard for Electrical Installations. 1.1.5 A safety shut-off valve which contains additional parts, such as interlocks, end switches, filters, regulators, etc., which perform secondary functions, is also covered by these provisions. 1.1.6 For the application of safety shut-off valves certified to these specifications, refer to applicable CGA appliance standards and the Standards CAN/CSA-B149.1, CAN/CGA-B149.2, and CAN/CGA-B149.3, Natural Gas and Propane Installation Codes. 1.1.7 This standard applies to safety shut-off valves which are capable of operating at ambient temperatures of 32°F (0°C) to 125°F (51.7°C), unless a higher maximum temperature, a lower minimum temperature, or both, is/are specified by the manufacturer. (See Clause 3.2.1).
