CAN/CSA-E335-2-14-94 (R2004)

Safety of household and similar electrical appliances - Part 2: Particular requirements for electric kitchen machines
This National Standard of Canada is based on International Standard CEI/IEC 335-2-14:1984. 1. Scope This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows: 1.1 Replacement: This standard applies to electric kitchen machines and to accessories intended to be used with multi-purpose kitchen machines. Examples of kitchen machines are: - mixers; - cream whippers; - egg beaters; - blenders for liquid; - blenders for food; - sieving machines; - churns; - ice-cream machines, including those for use in refrigerators; - citrus fruit juice squeezers; - centrifugal juicers for fruit and vegetables; - machines provided with a worm conveyor, such as mincers, noodle attachments and berry juice extractors; - slicing machines for bread, cheese, meat and the like; - slicing machines for beans; - potato peelers; - graters and shredding machines for vegetables and fruits; - cheese graters; - knife sharpeners; - tin openers; - knives. Kitchen machines not intended for normal household use, but which nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as kitchen machines to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard. Multi-purpose kitchen machines which, when used together with a particular accessory, are covered by another IEC standard, must also comply with that standard as far as it reasonably applies. An example of a multi-purpose kitchen machine is a mixer having a coffee-mill accessory. This standard does not take into account the special hazards which exist in nurseries and other places where there are young children or aged or infirm persons without supervision; in such cases, additional requirements may be necessary. This standard does not apply to: - kitchen machines incorporating heating elements; - food processors; - slicing machines provided with a circular knife the blade of which is inclined at an angle exceeding 45° to the vertical; - kitchen machines designed exclusively for industrial or commercial purposes; - kitchen machines intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas); - coffee mills and coffee grinders, which are covered by a separate Part 2; - food waste disposers, which are covered by a separate Part 2. For kitchen machines intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary. For kitchen machines intended to be used in tropical countries, special requirements may be necessary. Attention is drawn to the fact that in many countries additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities and the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour.
