These requirements cover classification, rating, and extinguishing performance of fire extinguishers intended for use in attacking Class A, B and D fires, and fires in Class C situations, as defined herein. These requirements also cover classification and performance during fire tests of agents for application to Class D fires. The ultimate classification and rating of an extinguisher or the prescribed use of an extinguisher or agent (except Class C) is based on its fire-extinguishing potential as determined by fire tests.
