Electric Luminaires for Use in Hazardous Locations
1. Scope 1.1 This Standard applies to electric luminaires for indoor, outdoor, and underground use in hazardous locations, intended for permanent installation on branch circuits of not more than 600 V between conductors and involving lamp voltages of not more than 7500 V in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Parts I and V. 1.2 This Standard includes requirements for luminaires of the pendent, recessed, or surface mounting types having incandescent, fluorescent, and high-intensity discharge lamps. 1.3 The requirements for electric luminaires for use in hazardous locations are given in five clauses as follows: Clause 3 - General Requirements for All Hazardous Location Electric Luminaires; Clause 4 - Luminaires for Class I, Division 1, Groups A, B, C, and D and Gaseous Mines; Clause 5 - Luminaires for Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, and D; Clause 6 - Luminaires for Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F, and G, and Class III; Clause 7 - Luminaires for Class II, Division 2, Groups E, F, and G, and Class III. The classification for the above luminaires is given in Section 18 of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I and the term gaseous mines is defined in the Canadian Electrical Code, Part V.
