Certification of Nondestructive Testing Personnel (Industrial Radiography Method)
1. Scope 1.1 This standard provides recommended course guidelines for the minimum essential training of, and a procedure for the certification of three levles of personnel to perform industrial radiography according to generally accepted and recognized procedures and techniques. 1.2 Such certification shall provide recognition of the qualifications and competence of the three levels of personnel. 1.3 This certification procedure does not necessity cover radiographic testing procedures and techniques required for specific products. Organizations and agencies making use of this standard shall determine that personnel performing radiographic testing procedures and techniques required for specific products are further trained and qualified to meet the additional requirements as outlined in Appendix F before they perform industrial radiographic nondestructive testing on such specific products. 1.4 This certification standard provides for the testing and qualifying of personnel in the general aspects of radiation hazard control in industrial radiography. It does not qualify the individual in safe handling of specific devices or safe operation of specialized procedures. Organizations making use of this standard shall ensure that personnel are familiar with relevant equipment and are qualified to work safely with this equipment, as outlined in Appendix F. Notes: In superseding 48-GP-4a (October 1973), this standard does not cancel the certification of personnel which would otherwise remain in effect. The certification of such personnel is reclassified in accordance with Appendix I.
