This part of ISO 12402 specifies the safety requirements and additional test methods for special purpose lifejackets and buoyancy aids (hereafter referred to as special purpose devices) in combination with the requirements specified in ISO 12402-2 to ISO 12402-5. It applies to special purpose devices for adults generally and for children younger than six years partially.

UL will create a new Joint Canada-US National standard for special purpose lifejackets and buoyancy aids. The proposed standard will apply to adults, children and infants. The rationale for adopting proposed ANSI/CAN/UL 12402-6 with national deviations is to give both the U.S. Coast Guard and Transport Canada a defined standard for special purpose lifejackets and buoyancy aids.

Note: The information provided above was obtained by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and is provided as part of a centralized, transparent notification system for new standards development. The system allows SCC-accredited Standards Development Organizations (SDOs), and members of the public, to be informed of new work in Canadian standards development, and allows SCC-accredited SDOs to identify and resolve potential duplication of standards and effort.
