Standard for Components for Personal Flotation Devices
Scope:
The purpose of this proposal was to address numerous topics to update UL1191 to reflect current technologies, current practices, editorial revisions, and to better align with ISO 12402-7 to allow for possible future harmonization.
Also, this proposal is to address requirements for electronic inflation systems. As end product standards are revised to address new technologies, so too does the need for components. There have been discussions recently regarding how to address electronic inflation systems. So that UL1191 is proactive versus reactive regarding this type of new technology, this proposal includes requirements that address the reliability and repeatability of such products, specific construction requirements, as well as the power technology utilized within such products. With the understanding that many of these products may be one time use products, this proposal also addresses necessary requirements for such products.
