Rechargeable and Automatic Flashlights and Lanterns
Scope:
These requirements cover rechargeable battery-operated flashlights and lanterns intended for indoor or outdoor use, in non-hazardous locations in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70.
These requirements also cover automatic flashlights and lanterns incorporating a switching device which, when the unit is connected to a line voltage supply, will maintain an open circuit between the battery and lamp and, upon loss of the line voltage supply, will close the circuit between the battery and the lamp. Automatic flashlights and lanterns may be provided with primary (non-rechargeable) batteries or secondary (rechargeable) batteries and battery charging means.
