This Standard covers flexible sprinkler hose with fittings intended for direct connection to fire sprinklers in installations requiring a flexible attachment to the sprinkler system piping such as clean rooms, suspended ceilings, and exhaust ducts.

The products covered by this Standard are intended for use in sprinkler systems installed in accordance with the Standard for Installation of Sprinkler Systems, NFPA 13; Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in Residential Occupancies Up to Four Stories in Height, NFPA 13R; and Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in One- and Two-Family Dwellings and Mobile Homes, NFPA 13D.

Project need:

Project Need
The proposal is to consider a joint Canada-United States National Standard for flexible sprinkler hose with fittings for fire protection service. The proposal takes into consideration current technology and standard operating procedures. There are currently no consensus standards published in Canada for flexible sprinkler hose with fittings for fire protection service. This joint Canada-US standard also responds to the request from the Council of Canadian Fire Marshals and Fire Commissioners to address outdated ORDs by adding the Canadian requirements of the ORD into an existing UL standard on the same subject matter. Manufacturers will benefit from reduced administrative burden when product only needs to be tested to a single standard. Regulators will benefit from reduced overlap in standards requirements. The Standard is written in a form that allows for technological advancement and product innovation. Balanced committee membership ensures that Canadian views are reflected in the safety and performance of flexible sprinkler hose with fittings technology.
