Standard for Water Based Agent Fire Extinguishers
Scope:
These requirements cover the construction and performance, exclusive of performance during fire tests, of portable water based agent fire extinguishers. These fire extinguishers are intended to be utilized in accordance with the Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers, NFPA 10 and with the National Fire Code of Canada.
The requirements for performance during fire testing of water based agent fire extinguishers are specified in the Binational Standard for Rating and Fire Testing of Fire Extinguishers, ANSI/UL 711 CAN/ULC-S508.
As used in these requirements, the term "extinguisher" refers to all extinguishers or any part thereof covered by these requirements, unless specifically noted otherwise.
Project need:
The “Instructional (i.e., Owners) Manual” contains condensed operating instructions and cautions necessary to address extinguisher model installation, operation and inspection objectives. In more simple terms, the Instructional Manual identifies activities the extinguisher owner can do/perform. Per the scope of this standard, service-related functions are to be performed in accordance with NFPA 10, Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers. To address various compliance, safety and liability issues the statement pertaining to “request and availability” needs to be removed. “Manufactures (i.e., Product) Service Manual” are only intended for use by trained, certified and qualified personnel to safely properly perform equipment service-related functions that include product maintenance, recharge and testing per NFPA 10.
