Scope

This Standard covers requirements applicable to signal receiving centre facilities and protection service, satellite centres, and bridging centres.

This Standard does not include requirements for hold‑up alarm systems or panic devices.

Signals received from residential, commercial and financial burglar alarm systems are monitored by signal receiving centre operators who process the signals and take action as appropriate for the type of signals received.

Signals from residential, commercial and financial burglar alarm systems may be transmitted directly to a signal receiving centre or by way of a satellite centre and/or a bridging centre.

Protection service is contingent on the risk level for the subscriber’s protected premises, comprised of the extent of protection, communication channel security, guard and service response.  Requirements for the installation and classification (of extent) of alarm protective equipment at individual locations are contained in CAN/ULC‑S302, Standard for Installation and Classification of Burglar Alarm Systems for Financial and Commercial Premises, Safes and Vaults, which should be consulted by burglar alarm installers.

Guard response service companies that respond to signals from protected premises shall be required to conform only to the requirements of Section 10, Guard Response Service.
