Scope

This Standard covers dry barrel type hydrants intended for use in piping systems supplying water for fire
protection service.

Hydrants shall be designed for a minimum working pressure of 1000 kPa.

Hydrants of special design, including those having built in hose gates are not covered by this Standard.

Hydrants with replaceable sections or components that are specially designed with lower breaking points
than the rest of the unit are not explicitly covered in this Standard. Except for the specially designed
breakable sections or components, however, such hydrants shall conform to all other requirements of this
Standard.

This Standard does not cover wet barrel type hydrants. Wet barrel type hydrants are excluded from
coverage by this standard due to the freezing concerns.

References to the setting and drainage of hydrants are not included in this Standard.
