Standard for Emergency Breakaway Fittings for Flammable and Combustible Liquids
Scope:
These requirements cover emergency breakaway fittings intended only for flammable and combustible liquid service including gasoline with up to 15% ethanol.
An emergency breakaway fitting is intended for use with dispensing devices to allow separation of the hose nozzle valve and/or hose from the dispenser and prevent loss of liquid in the event that the vehicle drives away before the hose nozzle valve is removed from the vehicle's tank filler neck.
An emergency breakaway fitting is intended to be installed between the hose nozzle valve and the dispenser.
Requirements for the installation and use of equipment handling flammable and combustible liquids may be included in the National Fire Code of Canada and the regulations of the authority having jurisdiction.
