This Standard covers manual stations and their accessories for installation in ordinary locations, indoor and outdoor, for use in fire alarm systems.A manual station having a pre-wound signalling mechanism and equipped with a tripping electromagnet to permit automatic actuation by separate detectors, and similar combination devices, will be judged with respect to compliance with the applicable requirements for both manual stations and electrically actuated transmitters. This Standard does not cover municipal fire alarm boxes or electrically actuated transmitters. This standard also covers manual stations used for ancillary service, such as manual stations for the electrical release of extinguishing systems.

Project need:

Project Need
The intention of this proposal is to bring ULC 528 in line with other ULC standards (UL 529, UL 531, etc.) that allow for an alternate 21 day mixed flowing gas corrosion test for indoor devices. This alternate MFG test is the result of research into corrosion mechanisms as they apply to electronic devices.
