This amendment revision includes the following proposals:

The proposed revision of 9.6 is intended to address single phase motors provided with inline pumps.  In accordance with NFPA 20 paragraph 9.5.1.2, these motors are not required to be evaluated provided they are approved by the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).  For in-line fire pumps utilizing these single phase motor constructions, a marking (Clause 29.7) is to be provided to clarify that the acceptability needs to be determined by the AHJ at the installation site.

The hydrostatic testing requirements were updated to address proprietary flanged columns.

The requirement of 7.9 was clarified to state that the flanged connections intended for connection to piping systems shall comply with national pipe flange standards. The proposed revision of 7.14 clarifies a stuffing box construction is applicable to all fire pumps. The requirements of 9.1 are based upon the adequacy of the material, however there are alternatives such as additional clearances and appropriate hardness differences that have been industry practice. The proposed revisions of 11.5 were revised to allow for other means of relief other than a hole. The marking for power in 29.3 (j) is being updated to provide for allowance of hp or kW to account for imperial and metric units as is done for other ratings on the nameplate.
