This standard covers specifies requirements for materials, physical characteristics, performance testing, and markings for insulated protectors for P‐traps, supply stops, and risers, including full under‐sink guards, intended to cover plumbing parts and equipment. Project need:

Project Need
CSA B651, titled Accessible design for the built environment, has requirements for the clearances allowed under lavatories and sink to provide access for wheel chairs. The pipes and drains associated with these fixture remain present under the fixtures. CSA B651 clause 6.2.3.1 states that, “If hot water and drain pipes abut the clearances noted above, they should be insulated.” This insulation also provides cushioning protection from the plumbing parts and equipment. Currently there are no Canadian standards which define the performance and material requirements for these protector products. This standard meets the needs of stakeholders: Manufacturers, Inspectors, Consumers, Engineers and designers.
