Note: The standard development activity of this Notice of Intent (originally published on June 14, 2022) was updated by the responsible SDO on March 21, 2023. This standard covers specifies requirements for materials, physical characteristics, performance testing, and markings for Dielectric Pipe Unions. These are metallic which join metallic pipe in a similar manner to standard pipe unions and flanges, with the added ability to electrically insulate one pipe section from another. These devices are intended to reduce galvanic corrosion in plumbing systems by isolating dissimilar metal piping sections.

Project need:

Project Need
Currently standards for these device in Canada do not exist. The devices are installed in pressurize piping system. Yet are not tested to any performance requirements not evaluated for electrical insulating properties. This standard meets the needs of stakeholders: Manufacturers, Inspectors, Consumers, Engineers and designers.

Note: The information provided above was obtained by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and is provided as part of a centralized, transparent notification system for new standards development. The system allows SCC-accredited Standards Development Organizations (SDOs), and members of the public, to be informed of new work in Canadian standards development, and allows SCC-accredited SDOs to identify and resolve potential duplication of standards and effort.
