The standard criteria are grouped into three sections based on these functions: 1) Role of the patient in Telehealth Services, 2) Ethical and Safe Telehealth Services; 3) Patient Records used in Telehealth Services.

The standard is being developed to provide organizations using telehealth services with guidance on how to ensure quality and safety within their unique institutional and virtual context; policy makers a blueprint for the requirements to designate organizations using telehealth services in their jurisdictions; and external assessment bodies with measurable requirements to include in assessment programs.
