Note: The title of this NOI (originally published on September 25, 2018) was updated by the responsible SDO on February 9, 2021. --------The Governance for Health Services standard aims to provide an updated approach for governing bodies of health and social services organizations to meet the demands for excellence in governance practice. This standard will address the responsibilities of the governing body to (1) function effectively, (2) develop clear direction for the organization and provide support in achieving its mandate, (3) be accountable to achieve sustainable results, and (4) be engaged in activities of the organization, particularly those related to quality, safety, and a culture of person-centred care.

Project Need

The responsibilities of the governing body to be engaged in the activities of its organization are critical for the success of health and social services organizations. The new edition of the Governance for Health Services standard responds to the need for an updated approach given system-wide changes in health and social services delivery and an increased need for accountability. HSO aims to develop standards that are relevant, and based on updated evidence and best practices to best guide organizations, leaders, and service providers in advancing the delivery of high quality care services within their unique contexts.
