The Diagnostic Imaging Services Standard aims to promote an integrated approach to diagnostic imaging services in order to deliver safe and quality diagnostic imaging services to clients in hospitals. The standard criteria are grouped into seven sections based on these functions: 1) Meeting the needs of clients and referring medical professionals; 2) Having the right people; 3) Providing a suitable environment; 4) Selecting, operating and maintaining diagnostic imaging equipment; 5) Providing safe and appropriate diagnostic imaging services; 6) Keeping records accurate, up-to-date and secure; 7) Monitoring the safety and quality of diagnostic imaging services

The standard is being developed to provide organizations using diagnostic imaging services with guidance on how to ensure quality and safety within their unique institutional context; policy makers a blueprint for the requirements to designate organizations using diagnostic imaging services in their jurisdictions; and external assessment bodies with measurable requirements to include in assessment programs.
