Scope

Wastewater treatment for lagoons and wetland systems, either piped in or trucked in, for northern communities.  This includes planning, designing and construction according to a consistent methodology specific for northern conditions, incorporating climate change adaptation strategies at every stage of the system’s lifecycle.

This Standard includes monitoring, testing and sampling protocols and guidance for inspection practices, as well as sludge management, closure and remediation practices.

Project need:

Project Need
In Canada’s north, warming due to climate change is taking place at a faster rate than the rest of Canada and quicker than most climate models predicted. Of critical importance to the north in the face of a changing climate is the protection of the region’s infrastructure. Given the associated costs and the complexities that exist in geographically isolated and climatically harsh regions, efficiency and resiliency are critical elements of built infrastructure in the north.

The system allows SCC-accredited Standards Development Organizations (SDOs), and members of the public, to be informed of new work in Canadian standards development, and allows SCC-accredited SDOs to identify and resolve potential duplication of standards and effort.

Individual SDOs are responsible for the content and accuracy of the information presented here. The text is presented in the language in which it was provided to SCC.
