Scope of the Standard:

This Standard  details mechanical, physical, and electrical requirements for a newly manufactured appliance that dispenses natural gas for vehicles directly into the vehicle natural gas fuel storage systems from natural gas distribution systems or supply systems other than residential gas systems, referred to as vehicle fueling appliances (VFA).  (Note: Residential fueling appliances (RFA) are addressed in CSA Standard NGV 5.1.)

These requirements apply to compressed natural gas appliances:

a)            for installation in, non-residential locations and non-retail fueling facilities;

b)            for outdoor installation or indoor installation;

c)            certified as a system for the direct fueling of vehicles

d)            for ambient temperatures not below minus 40° C (minus 40 °F);

e)            for nominal voltage not exceeding 600 Volts AC;

f)             for fill pressure not exceeding specified vehicle service pressure;

g)            for maximum inlet flow rate not exceeding 10 SCFM (17 SCMH);

h)            intended for connection to either a utility gas piping system in accordance with requirements of the applicable Code or a mobile gas supply source;

i)             ( NOTES: this is not a requirement, wordsmith to identify the standards will address these applications, however it is not required);

j)             intended to meet the installation fire safety requirements in accordance with the requirements of the applicable Code; and

k)            having single and multiple hose fueling assemblies.

VFA’s may be connected to ground buffer storage for outdoor fast fill operations in accordance with requirements of the applicable installation Code and pressure vessel code where approved;

This Code does not apply to:

b) mobile equipment using natural gas as a fuel for other than propulsion
