Scope

This document provides a method for determining the seasonal energy performance of air-source, split heat pump systems designed to provide residential hot water service using a storage tank, with or without electric resistance back-up heating capacity.

The test and rating procedures contained in this document are load-based performance tests, conducted under a set of outdoor ambient and cold-water supply temperature conditions that enable the calculation of a seasonal performance rating in up to eight climate zones.

Project need:

Project Need
The development of this standard will support the need to have test procedures and appropriate metrics for characterizing the performance and energy use of variable capacity air-to-water/brine heat pumps throughout their entire expected range of operating ambient and load conditions. It will meet the strategic needs of the following key interests: - Providing an appropriate rating and performance evaluation tool to estimate energy savings and load reduction in any North American climate zone. - Providing designers with accurate performance information for system selection and application. - Provide accurate performance ratings for buyers to enable the identification of the best performing systems, and the basis for utility program/initiative specifications, and labeling for buyer awareness

Note: The information provided above was obtained by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and is provided as part of a centralized, transparent notification system for new standards development. The system allows SCC-accredited Standards Development Organizations (SDOs), and members of the public, to be informed of new work in Canadian standards development, and allows SCC-accredited SDOs to identify and resolve potential duplication of standards and effort.

Individual SDOs are responsible for the content and accuracy of the information presented here. The text is presented in the language in which it was provided to SCC.
