Note: This NOI (originally published on October 17, 2023) was reissued by the responsible SDO on July 9, 2024.
Note: As requested by the responsible SDO, this NOI being reissued as the standard was in the initial stages of development for more than 12 months. An additional comment period of October 17 to November 7, 2023 (originally published on September 28, 2021).
The User Interface for Connected & Automated Vehicles (CAV) standard includes requirements for CAVs operating or intended to operate in both on-road and off-road environments. The User Interface standard is related to the digital infrastructure category. Digital infrastructure refers to the equipment that stores and exchanges data to support intelligent transportation services. The standard is intended to primarily address issues related to public safety, security, and privacy.
Examples of user interface to be covered under this standard include, but are not limited to, the guidelines for roads regarding the connected vehicle (CV) user interface, cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC)/ platooning, and CAV human machine interface (HMI).
Project need:
To support innovation and deployment in the field of connected and automated vehicles by providing infrastructure guidance for the installation and safe operations of CAVs and corresponding infrastructure in the North American context. This proposed standard is being developed at the request of industry and manufacturers. It will provide the industry with the technical requirements and standards of safe operation of CAVs.
