Scope

1.1 This Standard applies to cord connected and direct plug-in transformers for use indoors, designed to be used on a nominal 120-V branch circuit in nonhazardous locations in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, and intended to supply power for the operation of extra-low voltage toys or hobby equipment.

For convenience, the shorter term "transformer" is used throughout the Standard.

Note: Since it is recognized that transformers may be subjected to careless use and probable short-circuit of the output terminals, the requirements herein recognize that increased fire and shock hazards may be involved. The design requirements, therefore, are intended to reduce fire hazards such as the ignition of nearby combustible materials caused by overheating or burnout of the transformer, and any shock hazard under conditi ons of normal or abnormal use.

1.2 This Standard does not apply to toys or the like designed to operate from the output of a transformer.

Note: The information provided above was obtained by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and is provided as part of a centralized, transparent notification system for new standards development. The system allows SCC-accredited Standards Development Organizations (SDOs), and members of the public, to be informed of new work in Canadian standards development, and allows SCC-accredited SDOs to identify and resolve potential duplication of standards and effort.

Individual SDOs are responsible for the content and accuracy of the information presented here. The text is presented in the language in which it was provided to SCC.
