This standard outlines terms and definitions that can be used across sectors that are joining and building the bioeconomy, with a focus on terms that can be used more broadly to provide consistency and transparency for bioeconomy growth.

Project need:

Project Need

To provide consistent terms and definitions across the bioeconomy value-chain and support innovation within the Canadian bioeconomy.

This proposed New Standard is being developed at the request of NRCan Canadian Forest Service, through a Contribution Agreement with CSA Group. It will provide the industry with baseline definitions and common terminology to improve the use and alignment of language used across bioeconomy sectors and with the general public. This will meet the strategic needs of the following key interests:

 a) Users, producers and end-users will now have common terminology and definitions to refer to between their sectors.

b) Governments and their agencies along with other regulatory bodies will be provided with a common set of terms and definitions that can be used when referring to different points throughout the bioeconomy value-chain.

c) The industry and general public will have a common reference lexicon of terms to improve consistency and alignment of language.
