Scope

This Project will aim to develop a National Standard of Canada to increase the reliability of Environmental DNA (eDNA) survey data and interpretations, and thus increase regulator and public confidence. This Standard is a companion to CSA/W214-21, Environmental DNA Reporting Requirements and Terminology.

This Standard applies to the targeted eDNA assays used in the conducting of eDNA biological surveys or assessments.

This Standard provides performance criteria for targeted eDNA assays pertaining to assay

a) validation, including the following:

i)      specificity;

ii)     sensitivity; and

iii)    quantitative assay performance.

b) application performance, including the following:

i)    Assay controls for Type 1 (false positive) errors; and

ii)   Assay controls for Type 2 (false negative) errors.
