Scope

1.1

This standard applies to electrical systems of motor operated transportation devices that are powered by rechargeable batteries such as but not limited to: electric scooters, bicycles, wheel chair, golf carts, mobility devices, floor-care machines, elevating devices. This standard applies to electrical systems of motor operated transportation devices that are designed to be used in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.

1.2

Rechargeable batteries that are covered in this standard may be recharged within the motor operated transportation device or may be removed for charging with a battery charger

1.3

This standard covers the fire and electric shock hazards associated with the electrical drive system, control systems, and charger system for motor operated transportation devices

1.4

This standard does not cover the overall safety of the transportation devices that pertain to personal and goods transport and any other features or functions not mentioned in  clause 1.1

1.5

This standard does not apply to electrical and charger system of mobility devices that provides self-balancing on while in motion.

1.6

This standard does not apply to transportation devices that are intended to be used in the presence of explosive atmosphere (dust, vapor or gas)
