Scope

Standard will include sustainable design, operation, and management of northern solid waste facilities, considering all phases of their life-cycles, and assess current risks with respect to service life extension. In addition it is intended to include a plain language and graphics filled Appendix geared towards operators and maintenance professionals in the North, which provides an overview of practices for the monitoring and operation of the site.

Project Need
In Canada’s north, warming due to climate change is taking place at a faster rate than the rest of Canada and quicker than most climate models predicted. Of critical importance to the north in the face of a changing climate is the protection of the region’s infrastructure. Given the associated costs and the complexities that exist in geographically isolated and climatically harsh regions, and resiliency are critical elements of built infrastructure in the north
