The Sensor Edge Measurements for Connected & Automated Vehicles (CAV) standard includes requirements for CAVs operating or intended to operate in both on-road and off-road environments.  The Sensor Edge Measurements standard is applicable in the digital infrastructure category. Digital infrastructure refers to the equipment that stores and exchanges data to support intelligent transportation services. The standard is intended to primarily address issues related to public safety, security, and privacy.

Examples of sensor edge measurements to be covered under this standard include, but are not limited to, quantifying sensor performance degradation as a function of weather, maximum latency for edge computers for processing data and dispatching actuation signals, and safety of data sharing.

Project need:

To support innovation and deployment in the field of connected and automated vehicles by providing infrastructure guidance for the installation and safe operations of CAVs and corresponding infrastructure in the North American context. This proposed standard is being developed at the request of industry and manufacturers. It will provide the industry with the technical requirements and standards of safe operation of CAVs.
