The purpose of this Standard is to provide criteria and considerations for the safe selection and use of active fall-protection equipment and systems.

The selection and use of fall-protection systems as part of a fall-protection program that may include such elements as hazard assessment, work methods, purchasing, practices, training, maintenance, and inspection, intended to minimize the risks involved.

Project Need
Enhance the criteria for the safe selection and use of fall protection equipment and systems. Harmonize with new edition of Z259 standards published after Z259.17. The rescue requirements of fall protection. Also, selection and use of rescue equipment. Updating current industry recognized methods for both fall protection and rescue to ensure an all-inclusive approach to making this standard even more widely accepted and hopefully adopted nationwide both in regulatory body acceptance and in cross-industry use.
