Safety Requirements for Electric Fans and Regulators - Part 1: Fans and Regulators for Household and Similar Purposes
Scope:
Scope
This clause of IEC Publication 335-1 is applicable except as follows:
1.1 Replacement:
This standard applies to electric fans and their associated regulators intended for use on single-phase a.c. and d.c. circuits not e xceeding 250 V, for household and similar purposes, such as ceiling, table, pedestal, partition and ventilating fans.
Wherever applicable, the term "fan" used in this standard includes its associated regulators, if any.
Provisions of this standard may also be adapted to the extent applicable to fans not intended for normal household use, which, nevertheless, may be a source of danger to the public.
This standard does not take into account the special hazards which exist in nurseries and other places where there are children or aged or infirm persons without supervision. In such cases additional requirements may be necessary.
Additional requirements may also be necessary for fans intended to be used in:
(i) vehicles, and
(ii) tropical countries.
This standard does not apply to safety requirements for:
- fans designed exclusively for industrial purposes;
- fans intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas);
- fans used in air heaters, refrigerator equipment and air conditioners;
- fans for cooling built into special heating appliances such as rangers, ovens, range hoods and microwave cooking appliances;
- fans for use in ships and jet fans, which are covered in separate standards (under consideration).
Attention is drawn to the fact that in many countries additional requir ements may be specified by the national authorities responsible for health and for the protection of labour.
1.2 Addition:
This standard is concerned with safety and does not cover performance requirements and the corresponding tests.
