Protectors in Telecommunication Networks
Scope:
1.1
This Standard provides requirements for primary and secondary protectors used in telecommunication networks and installed in nonhazardous locations in accordance with the Requirements of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.
1.2
This Standard is concerned with the safety of protector users and their property.
1.3
This Standard also provides requirements for a current- limiting device located on the equipment side and forming part of the telecommunication primary protector.
1.4
This Standard also applies to telecommunication secondary protectors, and the requirements, criteria, and tests for these are specified in Clause 7.
1.5 Limitations
1.5.1
This Standard does not apply to protective devices such as isolating and neutralizing transformers, drainage coils and mutual drainage reactors, and optical isolators; nor does it apply to any other devices that may require special engineering considerations such as the protection of telecommunication services to, or between, electric power stations.
1.5.2
This Standard is not applicable to field adjustable protectors.
